Choosing a maintenance shop in Hampshire
- Check the approval covers your aircraft. Light aircraft that fall under Part-ML can be looked after by a Part-CAO organisation, while larger and commercially operated aircraft usually need a Part 145 organisation. Ask to see the approval certificate and its scope.
- Permit aircraft have their own route. Microlights and LAA types fly on permits, so check the shop knows your type and works with the BMAA or LAA inspection system.
- Book annuals early. Spring and early summer are busy, so book your annual or ARC review well ahead and ask how long the aircraft will be in the hangar.
- Agree how extra work is approved. Get a written estimate and agree how you will be told about defects found during the inspection before any extra work starts.
- Keep your records together. Take your logbooks, maintenance programme and any recent work packs, so the engineers can see the full history.
