Overview
Rattlesden Gliding Club flies from Rattlesden Airfield near Felsham, between Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket in Suffolk. The site is a former Second World War bomber airfield used by the 447th Bomb Group, and the club raises funds to repair the original runway.
The club fleet includes two-seat ASK 21 and Puchacz gliders for training, a Junior single-seater, a Falke motor glider and a EuroFOX tug for aerotow launches. Training follows the BGA syllabus, from first flights to solo, cross-country soaring and aerobatics.
Trial lessons with an instructor are the usual starting point. The club also sells a starter package with three months’ membership and flying credit. Rattlesden is a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC).
