Overview
Wanafly Airsports is a microlight flying school run by Dave and Amanda Lord. It is based at Deenethorpe Aerodrome in Northamptonshire, a former air force base with one of the longest runways in the area, and uses the microlight entrance on Oundle Road. The school’s web pages still carry older references to Sywell, but its contact and location details now give Deenethorpe.
The school trains pilots on both flexwing and fixed-wing (three-axis) microlights for the National Private Pilot Licence (NPPL) with a microlight rating, following the BMAA and CAA syllabus. Training combines dual lessons with briefings, solo consolidation and qualifying cross-country flights, and a restricted licence with fewer hours is also explained. Ground school, the theory exams and the General Skills Test are handled in-house, and owners can have permit inspections carried out.
Trial flights of 30 or 60 minutes include a safety briefing and the chance to take the controls. Gift cards are valid for 12 months, and a weather check call is made on the morning of the flight.
Wanafly has been a member of the British Microlight Aircraft Association (BMAA) for more than 20 years.
