Overview
Popham Airfield (ICAO: EGHP) is a well-established, unlicensed general aviation airfield located just south-west of Basingstoke / near Winchester in Hampshire, England. With two grass runways (08/26 and 03/21) and an elevation of about 550 ft, Popham caters to light aircraft, training flights, and recreational aviation operations.
The airfield operates an Air/Ground communications service on 129.805 MHz, and visiting pilots are asked to tune in at least five miles out for traffic updates and procedures. Facilities include a café open most days, flight training, aircraft maintenance, and a strong events calendar (including fly-ins and vintage gatherings).
Landing fees are modest — from £10 for single-engine aircraft, rising to £15 for twins and £20 for turbine aircraft — making it an accessible choice for GA visitors. The site lies alongside the A303 and is easily reachable by road, with convenient access for both amateur aviators and visitors. Noise-sensitive circuit routings and the grass runways mean good preparation is advised for first-time visitors.
Popham’s combination of welcoming facilities, training opportunities and social aviation events make it a popular destination in southern England’s GA scene.
