Brief History
Dedicated in 1928 and renamed for aviator Steve Wittman in 1967, OSH became the permanent home of EAA AirVenture in 1970—evolving from a modest fly-in (1953 origins) into “The World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration.” WWII-era roots trace to pilot training; post-war, it hosted debuts like Van’s RV-3 (1972). The 2025 event (July 21-27) shattered records with 704,000 attendees, 10,000+ aircraft, and highlights like B-29 reunions, Goodyear blimp returns, and Patty Wagstaff’s finale—cementing its legacy as GA’s pivotal gathering.
