Brief History
Founded by Dan Olsen, a passionate commercial pilot and CFI with roots in the Tahoe aviation community, Learn 2 Fly Truckee emerged in the 2010s to fill the demand for expert mountain and high-altitude training at KTKF—a WWII-era Army airfield reborn as a premier GA reliever for Reno-Tahoe International (RNO). Drawing from Olsen’s real-world experience guiding students from zero hours to confident PPL holders, the school has earned rave reviews for its patient, goal-oriented approach, helping dozens transition to commercial ops amid the Sierras’ challenging thermals and density altitudes.
