Baked in the heart of the Sonoran Desert at just 216 ft above sea level, Yuma International Airport (YUM) is America’s sunniest and driest commercial airport—boasting 350+ flyable days per year. Just 3 miles south of downtown Yuma, this joint-use military-civilian facility shares runways with MCAS Yuma (home to F-35B, AV-8B, and Marine Aviation Weapons & Tactics Squadron One). A non-hub primary airport serving American Eagle to Phoenix and Dallas, plus seasonal sunbird traffic—perfect for UK-based pilots chasing winter VFR perfection.

Brief History
Established in 1928 as Fly Field, YUM became a WWII Army pilot training base (Yuma Army Airfield). MCAS Yuma activated in 1959; American Airlines launched commercial service in 1989. The 2020s brought $50M in upgrades—new terminal (2023), U.S. Customs facility (2024), and solar-powered FBO. Known as “The Sunniest City on Earth”—ideal for year-round flight training and military GA crossovers. Named Arizona Airport of the Year in 2021.
