Nestled in the cool pines of Arizona’s White Mountains, Show Low Regional Airport (SOW) is a vibrant gateway for general aviation, essential air service, and mountain getaways. Just 2 miles east of downtown Show Low in Navajo County, it boasts high-elevation flying (6,998 ft) with stunning views of ponderosa forests and the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest—ideal for pilots seeking crisp air, scenic VFR routes, and quick access to hiking, skiing at Sunrise Park, or fishing in nearby lakes. Owned by the City of Show Low, it’s a non-primary commercial service airport serving ~60 based aircraft and thousands of annual operations.

Brief History
Dedicated in 1946 under a U.S. Forest Service Special Use Permit as a modest dirt strip, Show Low evolved into the White Mountains’ premier aviation hub with a modern terminal opening in 1999. Early commercial service began in 1994 via Scenic and Arizona Pacific Airlines to Phoenix, followed by Great Lakes Airlines (1996–1997). Today, it thrives on federal Essential Air Service subsidies ($1.67M/year), supporting subsidized flights by Southern Airways Express and Contour Airlines (launched Oct 2024). Honored as Arizona’s Airport of the Year in 2007 and again in 2024 for innovative planning and community outreach.
