Brief History
The birthplace of British aviation: Site of the UK’s first powered flight in 1908 by Samuel Cody in his Army Aeroplane No. 1. Established as a balloon factory in 1905, it became the Royal Aircraft Establishment (RAE) in 1912 for pioneering research (e.g., first airborne cameras, Harrier jet, Concorde tests).
